Tribestyle: Taisan’s Tribe 3 Costume

Over the next few weeks we are profiling a few of the costumes used throughout the series’. From the way they’re made to why they were designed the way they were. This week is Taisan’s Series 3 costume. Click any of the costume pictures for a larger view.

The mystical, spiritual figure of the group. A practitioner of alternative healing, and a great story-teller and weaver of myths for The Tribe.

Tai-San can be somewhat aloof, and very sure of her own beliefs in her own world.

Her persuasive powers and zealous conviction in her own morality can be an irritant to some of the others, especially Amber who accuses her of meddling with others emotions.

Married to Lex in Series 2 and then forming a close relationship with the Guardian in Series 3 – this girl is full of surprises.

Taisan has had many outfits throughout the show. This one is a particular favourite.

This red halter top is made from a light weigh polyester fabric. It is reasonably tight fitting and has two underwire pieces at the front for a more fitted look. The neckline is straight across and attached to the top is four metal rings to which the straps are attached. These are looped backwards and forwards from the front loops to the back and finally go around the neck and do up at the back. The front two panels are pulled together by a large black hook and loop clasp.

Over the red top above is worn a very fine mesh singlet. It is a very basic shape. Straight up and down with a very wide neckline and no real sleeves to speak of. It has been tie dyed in a way so it is blotchy and darker in some places. It is maroon colour.

Taisan’s shorts are made of a bright blue lacey fabric. It has a flowery detail to it and is slightly stretchy. They go down to just above her knees and along the bottom hem they have a small blue lace trim. The waist is elastic.

This overskirt is a tricky piece of clothing. The main part is made of stretch denim in a maroon/purple colour. This denim part is actually two seperate pieces which are domed together at the waist. It is at all sorts of crazy angles and the hem line is different on both sides. The back is much longer than the front. The two sides overlap at the front and are domed together.

You can see in this second picture how it opens up. Under the denim layer is a lovely asian print panel. This is attached at the top waistline by domes on either side and forms part of the front of the skirt. It is cut at odd angles and has two splits at the front. The fabric is teal in colour and looks like something you might see a Geisha in. it is decorated in coloured embroidery in gold, pink, and blue.

On the outside of the skirt it is detailed with domes running down it vertically. It also has large blue double stitching around every edge.

As you can see from the back view in the third picture – you’ll see that one of the main panels sticks up over the waistline and is folded over as a contrast piece.

Taisan’s jacket is bright pink in colour which goes nicely with the bright blue of her shorts. It is made of wool and looks like it would be very warm.

It is cut in a fitted 3/4 length style. From the waist down it has has three large slits down the front and the back in the centre of the jacket.

The lining is bright orange which is certainly a contrast but actually works quite well. The collar and cuffs are made of the orange lining but have a maroon mesh covered in velvety leaves over them. The collar is a square collar and folds right over the back. The cuffs are very long and have been folded back about 5 inches.

The coat is done up with a pink zip that starts at the waist and goes up to the neck. The detail on the front of the jacket is two vertical lines of buckles. Pink vinyl in strips has been sewn on (5 on each side) and a silver buckle threaded onto each one.

Lastly are Taisan’s knee high lace up boots.

They’re very chunky and are made of very thick leather. They actually have both laces and a zip to make them easier to get on and off.

They are “New Rock Originals” and have a large plastic emblem on the back heel. They also have a metal strip around the heel with the brand name imprinted.
